First off, why the hell are flights so expensive to DC from Pittsburgh? $415 to Regan via US Airways. The cheapest flight is $107 into BWI (which is not DC, it is Baltimore) via Southwest. When I started college, Southwest flew into Dullas and Regan from Pittsburgh but due to budgets cuts they chose to only fly into BWI. Why did they have to pick BWI?
The reason this is a problem is because I have an opportunity to go to game 7 of Capitals and Penguins on a press pass. Not only would I be able to see the game I would be able to go where ever I wanted. The only requirment would be to take pictures of fans for the first two periods. A fair trade off in my mind.
Here is the problem: I have a playoff softball game at 2pm which prevents me from being able to drive home to make the game. Softball games take about an hour and a half to two hours. This means that I can be at the airport by 4:30 so, without bags, I can get on a 5:10 flight which is the flight being offered by both Southwest and US Airways. If I were to by a ticket to game 7 it would cost me between $100 and $200 dollars so the Southwest flight, at $107, is the amount I would pay to see the game. Only problem is, as I said, it flies into BWI which, for you people who may not know this, is AT LEAST an hour away from downtown DC. So if my flight arrives at 6pm, I would be in DC a little after 7pm which is a problem because to pick up the press pass, I would need to be there a little before faceoff which is scheduled at 7:15.
So curse you Southwest. If you just flew into Regan, or even Dullas, I would not be having this problem. It is your fault I cannot go to game 7.
PS - Rodger Clemens has always been a jerk. And an idot. The reason he says he never used steriods is because he has a family health problem of heart attacks. His stepfather had one. Does Clemens realize that he shares no gentic material with his stepfather therefore it does not matter what happens to his stepfather. This makes me doubt him because it sounds like he is just grasping for straws.

Linguistics is the Devil
I HATE linguistics. I will pass the class with no problem but I'm so glad I had the professor I did because otherwise I would be royally screwed. It just doesn't make sense to me. AT ALL.
And since I have this strong hatred towards linguistics, I'm finding it very difficult to write my Pearl paper since it involves knowing a little bit about linguistics for at least the first part of my paper. I'm struggling to get through it. So far I only have a page and a half. I'm stuck. First time in my life that I've had this bad of writers block for a paper. It pains me. Stupid linguistics ruining the best class of this semester.
On a brighter note, the reason my iGoogle gives for me to drink today is amazing. "Today's Star Wars Day: May the Fourth (be with you). Today would be great for a Star Wars drinking game."
This made me smile just a little bit despite all this crap I have to shift through in order to continue to write my paper.
Gah

WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE FROM SWINE FLU...or not
Apparently Swine Flu is a world wide pandemic. 717 cases and 20 deaths with 19 of those deaths in Mexico City and the 20th was a Mexican toddler in Texas.
That warrants a pandemic fear? I don't think so. Let's look at the numbers.
The normal flu, not Bird Flu or this Swine Flu/H1N1, kills about 36,000 in the United States along according to CDC. If you type in the question "how many people are in the United States" in ask.com you will receive the answer 300,000,000. If we take this to be true, than 0.012% of the US population dies from the flu. Now, if you count that one death as a US death, than 0.00000003% of the US population has died from Swine Flu.
Oh wait, I'm not done yet. If you type in the question "how many people are in the world" ask.com will give you the answer 6,446,131,400. This means that 0.000000031% of the world population has died from Swine Flu and that 0.000011% of the world's population has caught the Swine Flu.
...? We are panicking over this??!!
This is not the Spanish flu which killed 600,000 people in 1918. And this is not going to turn into it because 20 people have died from it. 20. I'm pretty sure that within the first few weeks of the Spanish flu (which happened in the winter) it killed 100 some people.
We are in the summer months at the tail end of flu season. The flu virus doesn't live in hot weather.
Three things have to happen in order for me to be remotely afraid of this damn thing. 1) More than 20 people will have to die within a weeks period. This has been in the news for about 2 weeks not and only 20 people have died. Kick that number up to 200+ in two weeks and maybe I will be freaked. 2) People outside Mexico City will have to die. The city has 2 billion people and it does not have the best sanitation record. Of course people will get sick. 3) The virus numbers will increase during the summer months. I'm not talking about 200 more cases within the next two weeks, I'm talking about the number hitting over 1,000 in June.
Experts are saying the best way to avoid catching the Swine Flu is to wash your hands and stay home if you're not feeling that well. But that is also the best advice for avoiding catching a cold, the normal flu, strep throat, mono, and any other sickness that is spread by people breathing on other people.
In my mind, we should be freaking out about a normal flu pandemic which kills a higher percentage of Americans.
John Stewart said it best on The Daily Show. "Health experts and reporters are saying not to panic. But do you watch your own damn network?! It is all you guys talk about! Of course people are going to panic!"
This is why I haven't been watching the news recently. All they are talking about is the Swine Flu and Congress trying to get a playoff system for Division I college football.
What about the economic shithole are country is in? Or the war in Iraq which is kills more people than the Swine Flu?
But nope, our news networks decide to cause unnecessary panic.
Stupid.

C-A-P-S CAPS CAPS CAPS....among other things
I FREAKIN LOVE THE CAPS!!!!
No really I do. Semin, Green, Poti and of course, Ovechkin. Ovechkin could avord to stop being an idot when it comes to his driving (going over 100 mph in DC) but otherwise he isn't that bad of a guy. So what if he slams against the ice at home when he scores a goal? Its the Verizon center and the fans love it. He's physical but he is respectful of other players abilities (he did admit that Crosby was a good player). This is hockey. Players check. He is big. You do the math.
Beyond that I'm really excited to be in Pittsburgh for this series. I love walking around with my Ovechkin shirt on espcially after they win. Penguin fans think that their team is the shit so its nice to remind them that just becaus they have Crosby, they are not the best thing that has happened to hockey. They also complain too much that the national stage thinks Ovechkin is better than Crosby. So what? Get over it.
I'm also very glad that the Caps have made it this far because its been the only highlight for the past week. I started off being sick and tried to write a paper. It turned out like shit so my professor allowed me to rewrite it. Well, guess who lost their flash drive? Yep. Me. Oh wait, this lovely story isn't over. So I had to rewrite this paper but I also had a really big and hard final yesterday which ment I had to choose do I study for this big final or write this paper? I choose to study. This means that I still havn't rewritten this paper.
I also have to write three other papers that are due on Tuesday.
I hate finals.
I also hate the fact that ESPN decided to do 3 hours of coverage for a 2 minute race. Thats right, ESPN is having 3 hours devoted to the Kentucky Derby. WTF?
I'm done with my pointless rambling and going to go back to watching the game and writing this paper.
